Whether you prefer a dry filter like our DFlow™, or an oiled filter like our SynoilD™, both filters are made for longevity. Maintenance is an important part of vehicle ownership, but oftentimes cleaning a filter is overlooked.

If your car doesn’t feel as responsive as it used to, or just doesn’t pull as hard in the higher RPMs; there’s a chance your filter is the culprit. All of the cold air that makes it into your engine has to pass through this filter, so keeping it clean is of the upmost importance!

Custom Performance Engineering is not responsible for any damage caused to your filter or your vehicle during the cleaning process. Always err on the side of safety and make sure your filter is COMPLETELY dry before reinstallation. If you don’t feel 100% confident in your ability to clean your filter, please have a professional clean it for you.

DFlow™ Maintenance

Dry filters are very easy to clean and don’t require any extra cleaning kits. To clean your DFlow™ filter, remove it from your intake and dust off any major debris.Once the filter is free from any large bugs and grit, run it under a faucet to remove the smaller debris. Allow the filter to air dry for 24-48 hours, or until it is COMPLETELY dry. Reinstall and enjoy your newly reclaimed power.

SynoilD™ Maintenance

Oiled filters are cleaned in a similar fashion to dry filters, but they have an extra step where the filter is re-oiled. To clean your SynoilD™ filter, remove it from your intake and dust off any major debris.Once the filter is free from any large bugs and grit, run it under a faucet to remove the smaller debris. Allow the filter to air dry for 24-48 hours, or until it is COMPLETELY dry. Re-oil the filter using a cp-e Green Filter Maintenance kit. Reinstall and enjoy your newly reclaimed power.



When is the right time to clean your filter?

Filter service intervals may seem enigmatic, but a good rule of thumb is to clean your filter at least once a year. If your car isn’t daily driven, or if your commute isn’t too long, you may be able to get longer intervals; but in reality it never hurts to have a clean filter. If your car starts to feel sluggish or gas mileage does down, many times this is an indication that the filter should be cleaned.

A good practice is to have 2 filters, so you always have a clean filter on deck. This way you can just swap in your clean filter into the car while the dirty one is being cleaned. When it is time to service the filter, you’ll already have a clean one ready to install. This saves time and minimizes any potential issues that could arise from installing a filter that hasn’t been dried properly.

What is a pre-filter?

A pre-filter or “filter sock” is a breathable cover that is placed over your filter. This allows you to cut down on the debris that makes it into your filter, extending the life and service intervals required for your filter. Cleaning is still required, but many times it can be as simple as removing the pre-filter and shaking off debris.

Pre-filters are always a good idea, but especially in high debris areas, such as cities. While it might seem minor, keeping debris to a minimum improves the longevity of your filter.
