Mazdaspeed3 RMM Stage 2

It is well known that the stock rear motor mount on the MS3 is a weak link and cp-e™ has chosen to think outside the box on this and come up with a completely new design.

FEATURES

  • Billet CNC construction
  • EPDM Bushing to protect rubber from overheating
  • Stainless Hardware
  • Vertically mounted bushing increase’s durability.
  • Machined additional pockets to create lightweight but strong mount.
  • Step by step installation directions

To do this cp-e™ carefully studied the layout of the stock MS3 Engine Mounts. While designing the side engine mounts it was determined that a better design could be achieved on the rear mount as well.

The way the Mazda engine mount system works is that the two side mounts provide a rotational mounting point, if just these two mounts are installed without a lower engine mount the bottom of the engine is free to swing like a pendulum. Now if you take the stock engine mount and put it in place with its horizontally mounted bushing and you apply some power, it will stop the engine from swinging but you are now stressing the bushing in two directions. These types of bushing are not really meant for this.

So cp-e™ came up with a way to stress the bushing in only one direction, by remaking both sides of the engine mount cp-e™ was able to mount the bushing vertically so now the pendulum affect of the engine is stretching or pushing in only one direction. This also increases the durability of the engine mount substantially.

To accomplish this two blocks of aluminum, starting at 15.81 lbs are slowly whittled down over the course of a couple of hours in our CNC machine to a final weight of 3.53 lbs. This process takes a lot of time but was necessary to give our customers what they want.

This piece was a very easy install and is a very important part if you want to build a speed3. It smooths out the shifting, stops the motor from slamming into the firewall when aggressively shifting, and gives you a much better feel of what you car is doing. This is great for everyday drivers and tuners. You will not find a better rmm on the market. Good job and thanks cp-e.

Let me preface this review with the following: I am new to performance cars, new to tuning, and this was my first mod.

With that out of the way, this was the best improvement I feel I could have made to my 2013 MS3 for the money!! Looking back on how the car drove previous to this upgrade, I can say with certainty that it was nearly underivable in comparison. IMO, the stock mount should be recalled. I laughed aloud when I realized what was designed to hold in all this torque.

After reading a lot of reviews, my biggest concern was ride comfort. When I first started the car after the install, I knew there was a change as the engine sent in a nice low rumble I could feel in my seat. There is some increase in vibrations and sound in the cabin, particularly, between idle and 1300, and again when it is up over 4k RPM. This actually makes the car sound and feel more aggressive when inside. The rest of the drive is smooth as silk. Freeway driving is mainly unchanged. In all honesty, if you are into driving performance cars, you might be sad after the first 100 miles or so when the extra bass tones and rugged startups start to subside, I know I was.

For the slight increase in vibrations and sound, here is what you get:

    1) No more awkward dancing with the already touchy clutch during take-offs.

    2) No more feeling like someone punched your car in its guts during downshifting as the engine rocks around in there like Stevie Wonder

    3) A decrease in torque steer, primarily when accelerating hard down a straight (gun this thing in or out of a turn and you still get a little fight for the wheel, but it is mitigated greatly)

    4) No more walking around on egg shells during shifting. Smooth shifts in every gear and more power is put to the ground.

The install was also extremely easy (granted my car had only been growing attached to the stock mount for about 10K miles before I knew something had to be done).

All in all, this is very much worth the time and money to purchase and install. I went with the Stage 2 from CP-E because I felt like the redesign was clever and would perform better for a longer period of time.

The car is now a pleasure to drive where it was more of a chore previously. If you need more proof, this video comparing the engine movement before and after upgrade will convince you: http://youtu.be/GCC1-tp09Q8

This mount is by far the best mount I have tried (AWR and corksport insert) and this had to be most daily driver friendly! The vibrations do increase but they are marginal. All in all the car feel a lot more solid and the power delivery feels fluid and wheel hop has been eliminated. All in all I highly recommend this mount, it looks great, does the job of getting the power to the floor and it vibrates less than the competition.

    Tl; dr it’s worth it.

After a month of searching I went with this RMM for my ’11 MS3. It arrived on time, and packaged well. When I opened it up it was amazing! Well made and solid. Instructions were included. They were poorly printed, but you really don’t need instructions for this. The OEM RMM is a hunk of junk compared to this. Installation took about 1hr from jacking up the car to lowering it.
Starting up the car felt awesome. At low RPM’s there is more rumble then expected, but I guess this is normal.
I ran my car fairly hard for my test drive and no more thumping. This is my 1st mod and it is worth it. I cannot compare RMM’s, but I would definitely recommend this. In comparison to other manufactures it is a good buy.

Just had my wife pick this up for me today after a little spirited driving on my morning commute and destroyed the corksport mount that was in there. Putting this on took all of 5 minutes and could feel a difference as soon as I started it. Shifting between gears is way smoother and torque steer is more controllable w/ 350 to the wheel. Customer service was amazing and couldn’t be happier with the way Liz helped both my wife and me. I will definitely return for my next upgrade.

The quality of this piece is top notch. It reduces nearly all of the violent engine movement without punishing you with terrible vibes. I installed it with the CPE PMM and am very pleased with the results.

Put this baby on 2 weeks ago. Super easy installation. It’s well past the 100-mile break-in period and it’s doing great. The vibrations are greatly subdued after properly broken in. Basically the only time I really feel the vibrations now is when I start the car and when I accelerate from low RPMs. Shifting and clutch work is a lot smoother. Especially in the top end of each gear. Definitely worth it.

Without a doubt the best RMM for the Speed3, installation is simple and the mount has held up great over time.

Amazing product! The difference in build quality of this RMM compared to the stock RMM is night and day(stock RMM is a joke). Improved throttle response and less wheel hop; car feels a lot more grounded. Due to the tank like build quality of this RMM you will feel a slight increase in cabin vibration at idle but when you start driving and feel the difference its well worth it. Install was a breeze. Just make sure to support the tranny on a jack to prevent it from shifting and if possible have a buddy help as you may need to push up on the oil pan to get the bolts back in. GREAT job CP-E!!!

Just got back from my shake-down run after installing the stage 2 CP-E rear motor mount. This is simply the best 200ish dollars you can spend on your car. It improves practically everything this car has trouble with stock.

Transmission: No more touchy clutch off the line or going into 2nd! Without the motor rocking around with the stock mount, it just drops into gear perfectly. Clutch engagement is more accurate as well.

Wheel hop: No more wheel hop! I’m sure a bit will come back after it breaks in, but as of right now the power is going to the wheels instead of torquing the motor around in the engine bay.

NVH: Slight increase in noise and vibration at low RPMs. I personally like it. I do mean slight too, its not bad at all.

Torque Steer: I personally don’t think this does much for the torque steer. I think most people confuse the feeling of the engine lurching around on the stock mounts with torque steer. If you want to do something about your torque steer, you’d have to consider getting a geared limited-slip differential like the one Quaife makes.

Before installing the mount, it seemed like the engine just wanted to jump out the bay. Easy install and made a HUGE difference. Engine would hardly move and the drive feels amazing.

So far I’m loving the mount. There is a little bit more vibration but I haven’t driven the 1000+ that people say is needed to break them in. The best part though is that the entire car just feels better. Shifts feel more precise and I can now floor it in second with a lot less wheel spin. The car feels like it pulls so much better.

I’m a Noobie, this is my first mod.
Surprised by the heft and quality of the RMM. I picked this RMM because of the design of the product, seemed to be a big improvement over the improved and beefed up copies of the stock mount.
Was frustrated by the third bolt install on the mount to the motor, in the end well worth the frustration.
    Experienced additional vibration at idle.
This is a different car, car feels solid, smoother, shifts seem easier and most important car seems to be a better real world driver (less torque steer ?)
Well worth the additional cost. Get one.
