Product Description

Are you considering a single outlet exhaust, but aren’t too keen on having only one rear exhaust outlet of your Mazdaspeed6 occupied by a tail pipe?  Worried that our single exhaust might be too loud for your taste?  Well, after innumerable requests, cp-e™ has finally developed aquiet, full 3” stainless steel dual outlet exhaust system for the SPEED6!

cp-e™ Mazdaspeed6 Dual Cat Back Exhaust

We had one pre-requisite going into the dual exhaust project that took precedence over all others, namely, that the exhaust system was quiet, yet still increased the breathing potential of the turbocharged MZR.  To that end, we pulled out all of the stops and integrated two of our immensely popular 12” oval mufflers into the 3” stainless steel system.  The resulting sound is incredibly warm, it has a gentle burble to it at idle, and is totally devoid of any drone at cruising speeds.  Of course when you push on the go-pedal, it has a decidedly deeper tone despite that the overall sound volume hasn’t increased substantially.

We also worked very hard to eek out as much power from this kit as possible by removing every unnecessary restriction in the factory exhaust.  Firstly, we used only straight through mufflers (unlike the stock chambered mufflers), so the resulting power penalty is negligible.  We also massaged the transition from the single to dual pipes.  Anytime you make exhaust gas change direction, like you do in a bend, you create unwanted backpressure.  So we put forth a great effort to reduce the abrupt transition at the single to dual split on the factory exhaust.  Instead of a “T” like the factory system has, our cat back creates a very gentle, proper “Y” transition, which will substantially increase exhaust flow over stock.

The dual cat back comes complete with all necessary hardware required for a complete and professional installation.

I would give it 5 stars however the pipe connection on the passenger side muffler to Y-Pipe was oval. It took a very careful and hard effort to get it slid into place. Packaging job could have been better as well. By the time FedEx gave me the box it was hammered! The paper tape broke. Should use regular packaging tape CPE. Those package handlers are not kind!
Other than that the finish and welds are outstanding. Top quality and did I mention light? Very light. I had a hard time getting the outlets in the same position from side to side and had some contact from the pipe next to the differential at idle. I tried everything to get it perfect with help from a mechanic friend. I ended up at a custom exhaust shop where they made it perfect! No more contact and they welded the Y-Pipe connections to muffler inlet pipes (with stainless wire of course) where the clamps go. They also added length to the passenger muffler hanger. The passenger muffler had to be cut and rotated straight/flat. It was at a weird angle. Also had to move back a 1/2″ as it was further forward than the drivers side muffler and contacting the body. I didn’t mind bending the sheet metal on the car like the instructions say you might have to do. But this shop fabricator was a perfectionist. I didn’t mind at all. I might have got a system that moved on the jig during manufacturing or something. So your experience may be different. You cant go wrong with this system!
The sound is incredible. Idle sounds mean and commands respect. Is it loud? Damn right! But a 3″ exhaust coupled to a CPE catted downpipe surely wont be quiet. No drone at maintenance throttle cruising on the highway and surprisingly quiet for what it is. When you get on the gas however it comes alive. Also when off the gas in gear. I listened to a lot of exhausts on You Tube and the forums. This one sounds the best hands down. If its too loud for you then get a resonator!
