March 9th 2011 – HOMESTEAD, FL – Team i-MOTO pilots and brothers Mark and Mathew Pombo drove a flawless race to give i-MOTO Racing Mazdaspeed 3 its first 2nd Place Finish and podium for 2011 in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. The #31 i-MOTO Mazdaspeed 3 narrowly missed the win by less then .022 second over the APR Volkswagen Golf. Both Mark and Mat lead the field for the majority of there stints behind the wheel. Both drivers ran smart and saved the car till the end of the race. This was the first well deserved professional podium to Mark and Mat as team-mates. Team i-MOTO was very proud to be part of history and fortunate to sign two talented drivers like Mark and Mat Pombo!

For the team it was a great effort, perfect pit stops and perfect pit strategy, put both of the i-MOTO Mazdaspeed 3’s up front at the end of the race. With less then 30 minutes to go it looked like the #32 Mazdaspeed 3 piloted by Taylor Hacquard and Pierre Kleinubing was going to get their first well deserved win and maybe the team’s first double podium in three years! While leading the race over team mates Mark and Mat Pombo, bad luck stole the win away with a fuel pump failure causing the car to shut down on track and going from 1st to 20th place in a few laps. Time ran out for Taylor and Pierre, but they are very optimistic about the remainder of the season.

After the race Mark Pombo said “A second place in our first race with i-MOTO and first co-drive as brothers in Grand-Am seems surreal. Mazda and i-MOTO have been working for over a season to get a podium in a Mazdaspeed 3. The guys at the shop have been working their tales off for this for sixteen months so it is great to share in the excitement. We already felt right at home as new members of the team anyway but this just builds confidence for everyone going forward.”

Mat Pombo was quotes as saying “The Homestead weekend was definitely special. After the bad luck we had at Daytona, to get on the podium feels great. I gotta thank Glenn Bocchino and i-MOTO for giving us this opportunity as well as the tremendous effort our team and teammates have put forth to make this result possible. To put a Mazda back on the podium where it belongs feels great, and to get the first podium for the Mazdaspeed 3 is pretty cool. Hopefully, we can maintain some momentum going into Barber which is one of Mark and my home tracks and have another good point’s weekend for Mazda and the team.”

It was one year ago at the 2010 Miami Homestead Speedway that i-MOTO Racing returned to racing Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge after a one year hiatus and the first race running under the Mazda brand with the Mazdaspeed 3. It is ironic that team i-MOTO Racing gave the Mazdaspeed 3 its first podium and highest finishing position (2nd Place) at speedway where it all began. For i-MOTO 2010 was a year spent developing and learning the car. Through out the off season the team worked harder to make the cars more competitive with the front running cars in the ST class. The first race of the year at the Daytona International Speedway, both of the team cars ran into some bad luck. But that did not stop the team from rolling up its sleeves and working harder. The team rose to the challenge and the results speak for themselves.

There will be more news to follow with i-MOTO sponsorship in 2011 and more information relative to a third duo to pilot the third Mazdaspeed 3 soon!
