Ford Fusion FMIC
After months of engineering and development, cp-e™ is proud to release the Ford Fusion FMIC for the 2.0T. The stock intercooler does an excellent job for the everyday driver that doesn’t want to modify their car. However, once you find that itch to go faster, the intercooler is a must have modification.
What Makes cp-e™ FMIC’s Different? This product is CONFIRMED to work with the Adaptive Cruise Control
Ford Fusion FMIC Features
- 28 x 7 x 3.5″ Core Size
- Doesn’t require removal of active grill shutters
- Low Turbulence End Tank Design
- Minimal Pressure Drop
- Maximized Core Design
- Substantially Lower & More Consistent Charge Temps
- Bolt-in Design, No Vehicle Modification Needed
- Fully Cast End-Tanks
cp-e™ started off by determining the maximum size core that could fit without major modification to the vehicle. After our initial large core, we set out to build a lightweight version that combines performance with a smaller footprint. What we ended up with is a 28” x 7” x 3.5” core that performs great with lighter weight and a smaller size. This core uses the bar and plate design to help ensure a high level of efficiency.
2.0T Ford Fusion FMIC Design
cp-e™ then set their sights on the endtanks, developing a design that not only encloses the core, but also requires no cutting, no drilling, and no permanent modification to the vehicle. With the laser cut brackets, the intercooler will mount in the stock location while matching up to the stock intercooler piping. Customers can now upgrade their piping when their power demands need it and modify in smaller increments.
As always, the cp-e™ intercooler includes cast endtanks that are welded and pressure tested with the core. What sets these endtanks from the rest is the engineering behind their shape and internal design. Hours of design and computer flow diagrams have been put into the tanks’ design to virtually eliminate turbulence within them. Many times, upgrading an intercooler causes increased turbo-lag, and an overall pressure loss. This is because of the large size of the core and the turbulence within the endtanks. By designing the endtanks to be smaller, and more efficient cp-e™ has found a way to minimalize turbulence in order to keep the drivability of the car high, while still enlarging the intercooler drastically.
The internal design of the endtanks directs the air to bring the most optimal airflow as well as an even distribution throughout the core. In intercoolers, the back half of the core only does 25% of the cooling. The endtanks have been designed to direct the air properly into the core for the most even cooling, giving the vehicle the most consistent conditions going into the engine.
Ford Fusion FMIC Highlights
Turbulence Reduction Fins
When creating an intercooler, the goal is to maximize size, while not increasing pressure drop. Larger cores almost always exhibit some form of pressure drop, due to the massive turbulence in a large core. cp-e™ has engineered a way around this by adding our carefully calculated turbulence reduction fins to smooth out the airflow from the end tanks to the main core.
In the real world this translates to extraordinarily low pressure drop and no loss in spool times.
Fully Cast Endtanks
When durability and high horsepower are the main goals, nothing beats casting. Cut and weld sections just don’t have close to the reliability of a cast piece. The problem is that casting is too expensive and out of reach for many manufacturers.
With the ultimate product as our end goal, we only accept fully cast end tanks for all of our front mount intercoolers.

The FMIC arrived extremely well packaged. This is my first product from cp-e, and I am not disappointed. Installation was a breeze. Instructions were easy to follow with clear, color pictures. Fitment was perfect.
After installing the FMIC, I went for a drive and noticed smoother and more linear throttle response, as well as much lower temperatures. My 2.0 is much happier now!

This FMIC from CP-E is awesome. I was a little worried that it wasn’t going to fit with the forward collision sensor, but it fit perfectly. CP-E measured this to fit exactly within the factory opening without having to cut or permanently remove any parts. Even with the restricted air flow from a front license plate and a forward collision sensor, i’m still seeing great temperature readings from this FMIC.

I went with the CP-E intercooler because it fits without having to modify the active cruise control sensor mount or the active grill shutters. The intercooler fits perfectly with no modifications needed and is a big improvement over the stock unit. After some spirited driving the stock intercooler would heatsoak and there would be a noticeable loss of performance. With this intercooler there is no heatsoak and my Fusion accelerates the same every time. I do notice a little more turbo lag with the larger intercooler, but the little extra power makes up for it.
Also appreciate the little extras that came with the intercooler. CP-E provides high quality t-bolt clamps to replace the stock clamps and even an extra mounting bolt in case you loose one. Nothing included is cheap either. The mounting hardware is all high quality and even the instructions are nicely done and include pictures for all the steps.

First time dealing with CPE parts for my fusion and I’m highly impressed with the quality of the part and installation material. I have a 16 fusion awd and decided to leave the grill shutters off after installation due to it cracking only the bottom during removal. Still maintains great temps without the active grill shutters even with the sporadic weather we have been having. Instructions didn’t mention anything about the ambient air temperature sensor being located on the active grill shutters which I found out it was after so whether or not you reinstall the grill shutters don’t forget that sensor and have to remove the bumper again to plug that sensor in.
Overall great part, great quality, and I’ve just submitted my order for the off-road downpipe and rear motor mount. Highly recommend CPE parts.

Great quality piece installed on my 14 titanium awd , looks great , figment is dead on . My only complaint and it’s nitpicking would be that the sprayed on logo wasn’t dry when they packed it aha some peel marks . Not a big deal but I do show it off with open lower grill

This is a Quality product that fits as it should. No modifications necessary to make it fit, it fits right out of the box. Decent easy to follow instructions. Biggest benefit is in the higher rpm range. Engine pulls harder to near red line and doesn’t heat soak like stock fmic. Thanks cp-e for this excellent product.

CP-e’s FMIC for the 2014 Fusion EB I have is well worth the money. It has superior construction, comes with detailed instructions and necessary hardware to make it a FULL direct bolt-in replacement of the stock intercooler. Charge Air Temps have decreased significantly and looks good. I agree with others reviewing, power and response is great and keeps the level at an all time high for longer periods of time.
Thank you CP-e for the thoughtfulness in packing, shipping and great support along the way.
