Description
Ford Fusion RMM
Custom Performance Engineering, Inc. has chosen to think outside the box on this and come up with a completely new Ford Fusion RMM design. To do this, cp-e™ carefully studied the layout of the stock Fusion 2.0T rear motor mount. Immediately after removing the rear mount it was decided that a better design could be achieved.
The Ford Ecoboost engine mount system contains two side mounts that provide a rotational mounting point. The rear motor mount is added to help prevent the engine from swinging like a pendulum. However, the design of the stock mount orients the bushing horizontally; allowing applied stresses to act along two planes in the bushing. These types of bushings are not really meant for this and it has been found that the rear mount may be inadequate in preventing the engine from moving.
Ford Fusion RMM Design
cp-e™ has come up with a way to apply stress to the bushing in only one plane. By redesigning the whole Ford Fusion RMM, cp-e™ was able to mount the bushing vertically so that the pendulum effect of the engine is compressing the bushing properly. Orienting the bushing in a way that allows it to be compressed properly has allowed us to create a mount that provides a stiffer system while still using a low 65 durometer bushing.
cp-e™ goes a step further by using EPDM, a sort of rubber bushing. Urethane begins to fail at temperatures as low as 200°F and generally the bushings need a higher durometer rating to hold together. The Fusion rear motor mount is a perfect example of when not to use urethane. The location of the mount allows a large amount of heat to be transferred to the bushing. EPDM holds up to this heat, and doesn’t begin to break down and fail. EPDM has a higher density than urethane, so the bushing can have a lower durometer rating while keeping high reliability and support. Why is that good? Higher durometer ratings transfer vibrations through the vehicle and into the cabin, raising the NVH (noise, vibration, & harshness) value.
Ford Fusion RMM Benefits
This process takes a lot of time but was necessary to provide the design necessary for the application.
Through initial testing our mount has shown to help hold the engine properly in place while providing a low durometer bushing in order to keep the in cabin vibrations low. It is to be expected that vibrations will be added in some points of the driving experience, but this effect comes solely from stiffening up the engine mounting system.

EDPM Bushing
Unlike nearly all other engine mount manufacturers, we use EPDM for our bushings. This provides much more vibration resistance when compared to polyurethane. This material is also extremely resilient and is able to stretch and even develop small cracks without affecting its structural integrity. EPDM is much more expensive to produce, but it is a far superior bushing material.
Pressed Center Insert
Our metal inserts are physically pressed into our EPDM bushings. This allows the bushing material and the metal to have a perfect connection without any gap. Other manufacturers cut their material out to fit, leaving small tolerances where the metal can still vibrate. Our construction allows the EDPM to absorb the vibrations and allows the metal inserts to smoothly move with the EDPM.

Waited a long time for this RMM to become available and I am very happy I waited and did not get one of the other available mounts. It fits perfectly and only very slight vibrations were noticed while sitting at a stop light or in reverse. I have had it installed for 3 days and the vibrations are improving quite a bit. Thanks for the great product!

Installation was very easy lots of room.
Bought 12/26/15 now I have had it for about 4 months .
This is my daily driver first couple days vibrations were very noticeable(only when idling,when driving couldn’t notice). Then about on 2-3 week of constant use you wouldn’t notice vibrations as much just a bit more than stock.

The install was a little bit of a pain because one of the bolts was on very night and I couldn’t get to it with my wrench easily. After the install the vibrations were not horrible but noticeable. After about 2 weeks of having it now I get a little bit more vibration than stock and idle and reverse but driving around it’s only noticeable because you don’t feel the motor flying around in the engine bay. Wheel hop is completely gone and the car feels much more planted and predictable. Overall a great by and a must have for anyone looking to mod their Fusion!

Was a little hesitant doing my rear motor mount, but everything I’ve read says the pros outweigh the cons tremendously. The primary con being cabin vibration. Even on initial install the vibration is very tolerable. The drivetrain feels very tight, and even with the slightest pedal input you get feedback immediately. On top of that, wheel hop is now non-existent. MASSIVE upgrade over OEM.
