Best Mustang EcoBoost FMIC Features
- 22 x 6.5 x 5″ Core Size
- Low Turbulence End Tank Design
- Minimal Pressure Drop
- Maximized Core Design
- Substantially Lower & More Consistent Charge Temps
- Bolt-in Design, No Vehicle Modification Needed
- Fully Cast End-Tanks

cp-e™ started off by determining the maximum size core that could fit without major modification to the vehicle. Our EcoBoost FMIC uses the bar and plate design to help ensure a high level of efficiency.
cp-e™ then set their sights on designing the Best Mustang EcoBoost FMIC endtanks, developing a design that not only encloses the monstrous core, but also requires no cutting, no drilling, and no permanent modification to the vehicle. With the laser cut brackets, the intercooler will mount in the stock location while matching up to the stock intercooler piping. Customers can now upgrade their piping when their power demands need it and modify in smaller increments.
Best Mustang EcoBoost FMIC Construction
As always, the cp-e™ intercooler includes cast endtanks that are welded and pressure tested with the core. What sets these endtanks from the rest is the engineering behind their shape and internal design. Hours of design and computer flow diagrams have been put into the tanks’ design to virtually eliminate turbulence within them. Many times, upgrading an intercooler causes increased turbo-lag, and an overall pressure loss. This is because of the large size of the core and the turbulence within the endtanks. By designing the endtanks to be smaller, and more efficient cp-e™ has found a way to minimalize turbulence in order to keep the drivability of the car high, while still enlarging the intercooler drastically.
The internal design of the endtanks directs the air to bring the most optimal airflow as well as an even distribution throughout the core. In intercoolers, the back half of the core only does 25% of the cooling. The endtanks have been designed to direct the air properly into the core for the most even cooling, giving the vehicle the most consistent conditions going into the engine.
Mustang EcoBoost FMIC Highlights

Turbulence Reduction Fins
When creating an intercooler, the goal is to maximize size, while not increasing pressure drop. Larger cores almost always exhibit some form of pressure drop, due to the massive turbulence in a large core. cp-e™ has engineered a way around this by adding our carefully calculated turbulence reduction fins to smooth out the airflow from the end tanks to the main core.
In the real world this translates to extraordinarily low pressure drop and no loss in spool times.

Fully Cast Endtanks
When durability and high horsepower are the main goals, nothing beats casting. Cut and weld sections just don’t have close to the reliability of a cast piece. The problem is that casting is too expensive and out of reach for many manufacturers.
With the ultimate product as our end goal, we only accept fully cast end tanks for all of our front mount intercoolers.

Massive Core Size
The EcoBoost platform has seen some incredible power gains in a very short period of time. With this in mind, we wanted to create a very large intercooler that would support both stock and big turbo applications. Even with this large size, no modification or removal of stock parts are needed.
This combined with our fin design makes this intercooler the best choice out there for both stock and big turbo upgrades.

This is a great product. The design and craftsmanship on this inter cooler are outstanding. I immediately noticed that charge temps now sit just above ambient verses +10-20 deg with the factory unit. Installation was very simple. I will not fault CPE for their provided instructions, they are of nice quality, but I would suggest to be more descriptive and have photos that “show” the step being performed.
* It does not specifically state in the installation instructions to “REMOVE” the bumper cover mount screws located at the corners of the covers accessed through the fender wells. It mentions removing the 3 push clips. It alludes to “possibly” having to loosen or remove them. Well my bumper removed with “little effort” as they claimed, except I tore both mounting tabs clean off both sides. I will be requiring a new bumper cover.
*Installation tip: When installing the CPE cooler, leave the drivers side mounting brackets lose, this allows for much easier installation around the AC Condensor plastic shielding.

Honestly I wasnt even in the market for a new IC until i read a few reviews on the heat soak issues of the factory “unit”. After researching a few different manufacturers CP-e was the clear winner IMO. Un-boxing this thing it quickly became apparent that the build quality is top notch, Made in America, and is worth every penny. Fitment and installation was reasonably simple and straightforward, sans the bumper screw issue that I fell victim to. Intake temps are a few degrees from ambient give or take while moving, and +15 or so while in traffic, going back down within a few moments of moving again. best investment I have made so far. I would definitely recommend CP-e to anyone looking to keep those charge temps under control, extending the life of these motors at the same time.

I’m giving the C-PE intercooler a 5/5 starts because I am thoroughly impressed with its craftsmanship and the performance gains. The intercooler itself was much heavier than the stock, but for good reasons and I don’t believe it added too much weight. The stock intercooler is “flimsy” and small. The c-pe intercooler was sturdy and appears reliable. The size is considerably larger, yet there’s no modification needed to the front of the car.
As far as install time it did take us about 4 hours, but we took our time and triple checked everything as we were doing it ourselves. So it could possibly be less time. The most important thing to note is that there is a disclaimer in the instructions about a possible bolt in a tricky area where the mounting tabs are on the bumper. The problem partly was this disclaimer is on the next page after the bumbper removal instructions. Would help if it was at the beginning of the removal instructions just for safe measure. It is very easy to miss. Other than that install instructions/ pictures were great.
Performance wise I am very happy. Immediately after firing her up I could hear the whoosh of my turbo better and driving around town I could feel the difference. I did a cobb tune shortly after (that I purchased through cp-e) and the car came even more alive. The two together really gave me more power. Am very impressed! Thank you!

Physically, the intercooler is of top quality fit and finish. Welds are done impeccably and IAT’s have gone down a fair bit leading to full power pulls for a extended period of time.
Intercooler was well packed to prevent damage and the cp-e vinyl sticker was a nice freebie.
The only thing I would recommend is changing up the instructions a fair bit because I had a hard time setting the intercooler in place with the brackets put on first. It seems much smarter to just install the driver side bracket and o2 sensor after its been set in place as to not have to lift the radiator as much and potentially bending the very weak fins.
Will definitely be looking to buying the downpipe and stage 2.5 intercooler (when it becomes available) from CP-E because i was so impressed with the quality of the unit.

By far one of the best mods you can do to these ecoboost mustang! Was in the market for one that will fit in the stock location and let me tell you after many hours reading the forums the answer became clear. This intercooler was the clear winner, its the biggest intercooler that fits in the stock location, Build quality is top notch! & your getting customer service from a company that pays attention to what the customer wants. My only request was to remove the front logo for the sleeper look in my stang and they did it no questions asked.

Awesome product. Fit and finish was exactly as expected.

Amazing intercooler, have had no issues, charge temps are ridiculoously cool.
Only issue was that the fitment was not 100% perfect.

Installation was not difficult. Reading the other reviews helped avoid the bumper issues that several drivers encountered. The only problem I had was that the front hole for the upper side mount on the driver’s side was drilled and threaded too big for the enclosed bolts, so only (7) out of (8) could be used. The intercooler is not going anywhere, but I plan to find a bigger bolt to replace the one I could use.
